15 Feb DICID Staff Participated in British Council Project
Head of Public Relations, Mr. Hamde Blackic, attended a three-day Global Changemakers’ meeting in Qatar in February as a representative of Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue. Global Changemakers is a project managed by the British Council in Switzerland and its patron is Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister. The aim of the Global Changemakers’ program is to bring together young people aged between 15 and 28 from around the world and to encourage them to share their concerns about local and global problems, discuss possible solutions to such issues, participate in awareness-raising campaigns for other young people and take action to bring about change to make the world a better place.
During the Qatar Global Changemakers’ meeting which was attended mainly by young delegates from Arab countries, the youth participated in a number of think-tank workshops and attended presentations given by a young Jordanian who outlined his campaign of support for Palestine, a young American who had been involved in the organization of Barack Obama’s electoral campaign in four US states and the UK Youth Parliament which shared its experience of setting up community projects in Great Britain. In addition to this, an action plan was drawn up by the delegates and delegates from UAE, now plan to set up a Global Changemakers’ advocacy group and awareness-raising group in the UAE to try to deal with problems such as unemployment, the situation in Gaza and inter-cultural issues in the country.
We take this opportunity to express sincere appreciation and congratulations to the British Council on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue – DICID for this successfully organized event. Special appreciation to Mr. Simon Winetroube, British Council Director.
