17 Aug Qatar continues to play a leading role in promoting the culture of dialogue and peace internationally; Doha hosts signing of the Chadian Peace Deal
On Monday, August 8, in Doha, the Chadian parties signed the Doha Peace Agreement and the participation of the politico-military movements in the national, inclusive, and sovereign dialogue in Chad under the auspices of the State of Qatar. The agreement aims to achieve comprehensive reconciliation in Chad. The signing of the agreement is the culmination of Qatar’s negotiations over the past five months with regional and international participation, which came after overcoming numerous challenges and difficulties in the negotiation process.
It is worth noting that Qatar’s initiative to resolve disputes and conflicts through peaceful means and dialogue was not the first of its kind. The State of Qatar has participated in many different initiatives aimed at eliminating conflicts and their effects in many regions of the world. The State of Qatar is committed to continuing these initiatives and providing financial support with a clear plan and strategies that not only reflect the resolution of conflict, but also pave the way for development. In addition, Qatar is regarded in the West and East as a moderate and modern Islamic country that was one of the first countries to sign international and regional conventions to combat terrorism, racism, and non-discrimination.
This initiative is also an affirmation of the development of a holistic view of serious and effective strategies to address the roots of the conflicts that negatively affect our world today and disrupt security and stability in the world. Moreover, a positive dialogue between the conflicting parties is the most successful and effective means that will lead to peace and stability, thus providing an appropriate framework for development. This will certainly lead to an appropriate solution to military conflicts as well as poverty and marginalization. One of the major challenges hindering development in the world in general, and in some parts of Africa in particular, is undoubtedly inequality and conflict, whether ethnic or religious. The price of conflict is undoubtedly its negative impact on development. On the other hand, dialogue leads to peaceful coexistence, social harmony, and prosperity.
His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, stressed that “the Doha Peace Agreement is a first step that paves the way for the start of the national, inclusive and sovereign dialogue in Chad in the capital N’Djamena, aimed at achieving comprehensive national reconciliation in Chad.”
HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that in this sense, the State of Qatar has not hesitated for a moment to accept the mediation and to host negotiations between the Chadian parties, believing that a genuine reconciliation of the Chadian people is the firm guarantee for the sustainability of peace, stability and building the State of law and development in Chad. His Excellency stressed that “the State of Qatar very much hopes that the first peace agreement we are celebrating today will be an important turning point on the road to stability and prosperity for the Chadian people and the achievement of their goals in terms of security, development, and prosperity”.
