His Excellency Prof. Ibrahim Saleh Al-Naimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) Qatar, received Rev. Mark Bosco, S.J, vice president for mission and ministry, in Georgetown university, and Imam Yahya Hendi, the director for Muslim Life in the office of Campus Ministry at the DICID headquarters in Katara Cultural Village.
Prof. Ibrahim Saleh Al-Naimi opened the meeting by thanking the two visitors for their visit and stated that DICID highly appreciates and pays great attention to such visits as they are a concrete expression of building bridges of communication and trust and pave ways for cooperation between the parties involved in the dialogue of civilizations, cultures, and religions.
His Excellency pointed out that DICID maintains a partnership and good communication with many scientific, cultural, and civic institutions in the United States of America, including Georgetown University, whose members participate in DICID activities, conference, and seminars, and assist each other in scientific lectures. DICID has held many activities and events in collaboration with Georgetown University. His Excellency said, “It is necessary to work on continuing the cooperative relationship to achieve more activities that serve both parties and help promote the values of coexistence, encourage dialogue, and raise awareness of the culture of tolerance, acceptance of pluralism, and respect for others.
For his part, Rev. Mark Bosco, vice president for mission at Georgetown University on the main campus in Washington, D.C., praised the warm welcome and cooperation in organizing this meeting and the warm reception. And with this visit, accompanied by Imam Yahya Hindi, he wanted to express the sincere desire to continue the good relations between Georgetown University and DICID and work to expand the scope of cooperation and exchanges in possible activities in the coming periods.
Prof. Ibrahim Al-Naimi also mentioned the new ongoing activities of DICID and that a global youth forum titled “International Youth Forum for Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue – Qatar 2023” is planned. It will be organized in cooperation with Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and A Common Word Among Youth (ACWAY) Foundation. It will be held from February 11 to 14, 2023. One of the most important things Dr. Ibrahim talked about in this context is the need to engage and mentor young people in the issues and activities of the dialogue.
Rev. Mark Bosco expressed the desire of Georgetown University and its desire to hold a scientific symposium on the environment, sustainability and youth in collaboration with DICID, as the university is interested in the issue of sustainable environment and will offer scientific programs in this area. Dr. Ibrahim praised this idea, pointing out that DICID has dedicated a series of journals to the issue of environment in religions, which is “a broad field that deserves attention”: “a broad field that deserves attention and youth and that is one of the priorities of the dialogue.”
In conclusion, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim thanked the two guests for their time and visit, recalling the importance of communication and joint work that serves both sides and creates a culture of dialogue, coexistence and tolerance.
