DICID Plans Events to Promote Dialogue Culture
The Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue is set to launch a slew of programmes to promote dialogue among religions around the world including the 7th Doha Interfaith Conference next October, the DICID chairman Dr Ibrahim Saleh al-Naimi said yesterday.
Speaking at a Ramadan Suhour held at the Diplomatic Club, Dr al-Naimi said that the DICID would also organize a symposium for interfaith dialogue in Lebanon.
“We will bring the different groups in Lebanon together including the Sunnis and Shias. It will serve as an open forum where we will discuss the issue of interfaith dialogue in the Arab world with special reference to Lebanon,” al-Naimi said.
As part of the DICID plans to promote the culture of dialogue between religions, a delegation from the centre is set to travel to the UK to give a presentation about the mission and vision of the DICID before the House of Lords.
“The Centre plans to give a presentation before the House of Lords on October 21. This is part of our mission to promote interfaith dialogue and introduce the DICID to different countries around the world,” Hamdija Blekic, the head of public relations department told Gulf Times.
The centre also plans to make a tour of many European countries as well as the US to rally support for the idea of interfaith dialogue and culture of tolerance.
The DICID, which was established as a result of a recommendation of the Fifth Doha Interfaith Conference in May 2007, seeks to spread the culture of dialogue, the peaceful coexistence of humanity and the acceptance of others.
The gathering was attended by personalities including leaders of the Christian denominations in Doha, diplomats and professors at Qatar University.
