07 Nov DICID receives a delegation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for an official visit
Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, Board Member of Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, welcomed a high-level delegation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led by Mr. Gerrit Walter Gong, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at DICID headquarters in Katara’s Cultural Village.
Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for their official visit to DICID. He expressed his satisfaction with the diversity of the visiting delegation, which included members of committees interested in family affairs and scientific research as well as administrative and scientific figures. He emphasized the DICID’s interest in these visits, which broaden the partners’ horizons of understanding and help them get to know one another better. He also noted that this type of meeting provides an opportunity to observe how the two parties collaborate and advance in the best interests of both sides.
“First of all, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue on behalf of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of DICID, Prof. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi, and all the members of the Board and DICID team. Secondly, we are happy that you are here, as this visit will provide us with a chance to establish, discuss, and maintain productive cooperation between both groups, he stated.
The head of the delegation, Mr. Gong, thanked Mr. Al-Ghamdi and the staff for their warm welcome and flexible scheduling, saying, “We are delighted to visit DICID, with which we are happy to continue cooperating and building bridges together.”
Mr. Al-Ghamdi praised The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its efforts to work with Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, saying, “Being part of a series of activities organized by DICID during 2023 such as the World Youth Forum for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue and the International Forum on Women, Religion, and Climate Change is a good evidence of the strength of partnership, good endeavors, and cooperation between us.” Additionally, “We hope to accomplish another activity on human dignity at the end of the year as planned and work on it.”
The two sides talked on a variety of topics, including peace, dialogue, and coexistence, as well as external challenges and crises, and possible ways to enrich aspects of their long-term collaboration. One of the most important topics covered is the fifteenth international conference, which DICID is planning to hold in early May of next year and to which DICID is glad to invite The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate.
Last but not least, Mr. Al-Ghamdi shed light on the most important activities carried out by Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, such as holding conferences, conducting seminars and symposiums, and so on. The majority of these activities and efforts are centered and founded on clear visions and missions with documented strategic plans, while others are the result of suggestions and proposals from DICID friends and partners, and yet others are the outcome of MOUs signed by DICID with similar organizations.
Mr. Al-Ghamdi thanked Mr. Gong and the entire delegation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their visit, emphasizing the importance of long-term collective work to serve humanity and activate religious teachings to end crises, promote prosperity, and spread the spirit of tolerance.
