08 Apr DICID to Organize and Host a Roundtable Discussion on Global Economic Crisis, 3-4 May 2009 in Doha
The current financial crisis has been by far, the worst witnessed by Arab and Islamic countries since their independence and is a serious threat to the prosperity of all nations throughout the world. The global community is now desperately searching for practical strategies to pave the way out of this crisis.
We at the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue believe that Islamic law can provide an economic model that has been extensively proven over the last 1400 years to work that would not only solve the current crisis, but would also prevent the economic mismanagement the global monetary system in the future.
The DICID has therefore decided to organize and host a round table discussion in collaboration with the Earth Mates Dialogue Center of London titled “The Role of Faith in the Global Economic Crisis: A Religious Perspective” which is to be held 3-4 May, 2009 in Doha, and will host a selected group of professionals and academics in this field.
The roundtable discussion will address a number of themes including:
1. The Economic Crisis: Reality or Illusion?
2. The Concept of Economic Growth and Development: An Islamic Perspective.
3. The Islamic Economy: A Viable and Proven Alternative.
4. The Global Economic Crisis: Where to from here?
5. Visions and Concepts: How to Present the Islamic Alternative to the World?
