30 Nov Prof. Ibrahim Al-Naimi awarded World Interfaith Peace Prize
As part of the activities of the International Inter-Faith Peace Conference, held by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony together with Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad in the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, His Excellency Dr. Arif Rahman Alvi, His Excellency Prof. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education was awarded the World Interfaith Peace Prize on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
It is noteworthy that the conference was entitled “Respect for Humanity and Its Importance”, and was held in the presence of representatives of various religions around the world, including Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and others. Many Islamic personalities from different countries of the world had also joined. Among the personalities participating in this conference were Dr. Noor-Ul-Haq, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony in Pakistan, Dr. Leif Hetland from the United States of America and Imam Qasim Rashid from the United Kingdom, Mr. Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the Grand Imam and Chairman of the Central Committee for Crescent Sighting in Pakistan and Chairman of the Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony, and Professor Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Thought.
In his speech, which was presented via video conference, Dr. Al-Naimi said, commenting on this honor: “It is a great honor to be part of this distinguished gathering of religious leaders within this important international conference, and to be among the recipients of this award in the company of many religious leaders and actors around the world, and I very much thank the Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Pakistan, not only for this honour, but also for their efforts in promoting the role of religion in peacemaking.”
His Excellency added a statement of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue on the concept of dialogue adopted by the center to contribute to creating global peace and convergence between peoples and adherents of religions. He said: “The interfaith dialogue that we adopt is a practical and realistic dialogue that aims at coexistence among people with dignity, justice, security and peace, a dialogue that looks at opportunities. A convergence through which we can transcend the distinction between human beings, and chart the path of life in its various fields on the basis of commonalities between religions.”
It is worth noting that the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue is the leading institution in Qatar concerned with interfaith and intercultural dialogue and capacity building in the field of dialogue and culture of peace with the aim of supporting and promoting a culture of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence among adherents of religions, as well as activating religious values to address issues and problems of concern to humanity.
