11 Oct Qatari Students Set for Interfaith UK Tour
As part of its summer activities, the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) is organising a tour to the UK for a 20-member group of Qatari children.
The tour will begin early next month, according to organisers.
The tour is being undertaken in developing and cultivating the sense of need for spreading the spirit of inter-faith dialogue and peaceful co-existence, according to a center statement.
At an introduction ceremony at the center, the group members were briefed on the importance of the trip and what they were required to do during the stay in UK, in particular in London.
An expert in inter-cultural dialogue and Slovenian national Hamdija Blekich briefed the students on the discipline to be maintained while being away from Qatar. “Each student should see themselves as an ambassador of his nation, culture and religion. So wherever you go and whatever you do, good or bad, people will not mention your name. Instead they will mention your country and sometimes, religion,” he said.
Earlier senior DICID official Abdullah al-Aawi stressed the importance of good conduct, behavior and discipline during their stay in the UK.
Besides London, the Qatari students will also tour Hastings, an East Sussex suburb. They will also participate in some sport activities, talent competitions and visit local theatres.
The DICID said the main objective of the tour is to ensure that students experience important inter-cultural and religious activities by visiting and meeting multi-faith sites and societies. One of the key objectives, said the DICID, is to identify and appreciate the differences in terms of culture, customs and traditions.
